About the Club
East London Hockey Club was founded in 1990 as a field hockey team from the Metropolitan Police. Today we have open membership, with our 450 members covering the full spectrum of age, gender and ability. Having doubled in size in the last seven years, the club currently has eleven men's and twelve ladies teams (including Masters and indoor), and two mixed teams, together with a well-established youth section. Our teams compete in the East and Essex leagues, and our Ladies 1XI secured promotion to National Conference in March 2020, the first team to do so in ELHC's history. We also founded the Tower League in 2016/17, aimed at new players or those returning to hockey. The Club is based at the Olympic Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre, together with the Mile End Stadium astroturf. We are proud of our inclusivity, our engagement with local communities, a healthy social scene, and the general growth of the club.
If you are a seasoned player who’s just moved to East London, or a former player looking to return to the game, then fill in a membership form straight away and get stuck in. However, there are opportunities for every level of member at East London Hockey Club. Even if you have never picked up a stick before, come along to training and join in and have some fun, or if coaching and umpiring is more your thing, do still get in touch. You can find out about training here and fill in a membership application form here. The club continues to grow, and the more new faces at every level the better.
The club also does not underestimate the vast importance of youth hockey, not just for East London Hockey Club, but also for young people in the area that never have access to such a great sport. We agree with Sport Inspired that sport is an excellent way to inspire young people so we established the first-ever youth hockey club section in Tower Hamlets. We also work with Sport Inspired to give a taste of hockey to many children in Hackney and the surrounding areas.
If you are interested in joining the youth section on Sunday mornings, then take a look at our youth page and please email youth@elhockey.co.uk staing your interest. Also, if you want to volunteer to help coach, organise, sponsor or oversee any of this work, then please email youth@elhockey.co.uk. Any help is greatly appreciated and will make a lasting difference to hockey in the area.
